Art with Me Workshops:
These one-day workshops are a  shared experience for the very young to enjoy with an adult. Participants will experiment with a wide variety of age appropriate media and techniques.

Play with Clay Workshop
In this 2 session parent and child workshop learn the basic methods of hand-building with your child. Create 3 pieces out of clay and come back the second week to glaze your pieces.

After School Poetry Head Start
Kids interested in poetry will take the great leap forward to learn about the magic mystery of poetry. Budding poets will play with rhyme in every way imaginable, and will learn to count and arrange syllables.  A Poet Walk will fire up imaginations so these poets can exercise their new skills.

Mini Masters 

 Little artists will have an opportunity to learn about well know artists of the world while exploring a variety of techniques such as drawing and painting.

Mosaic Madness  

Learn the history of this age-old art, recycle broken pieces and create your own unique designs. Basic safety techniques and use of simple tools will be demonstrated.  Note: For personal pizzazz, bring broken bowls and plates with you to camp.

The Art of Sculpture

 Learn to use a variety of mediums including wire, plaster, and clay to create both abstract and representational works meant to be seen in the round.

Drawing and Painting 

Develop knowledge of the fundamentals of art such as line, color, shape, and proportion while creating still life drawings, figure drawings, and abstract paintings.  Explore various media including charcoal, pastel, acrylic paint and colored pencil.

Clay Camp 1 

Students will work in hand building techniques and will spend some time working on the potter's wheel.  Learn how to wedge clay, center and form shapes on the pottery wheel, trim and finish your work with colorful glaze.

Characters, Creatures and Cartooning!  

 This camp will focus on basic cartooning and illustration skills and is perfect for emerging artists. Students will create their own character and designing a comic book around these characters.  Exaggeration, proportions, perspective and dialog are all taught.

Art Around the World 

Journey with us around the world stopping to learn about different cultures.  Some of our stops include China, India and Australia. Various art mediums will be introduced in this camp.

Clay Creations

 Explore clay through wheel throwing, hand building and sculpting.  Possibilities are endless when you let your imagination take the lead. Pieces will be fired and glazed.

Underwater Plastic Adventure Camp 

Students will look at sea-life as subject matter and work together to discover the many things in common that art, plastic, and the environment share. Students will learn the simple skills and techniques for working with colorful recycled plastic to create sculptural reefs. As a group, the students will display their individual art reefs as one giant plastic coral reef at the end of the camp.

Clay Camp 2

Intermediate and advanced students will be encouraged to design their own projects in a direction of their own choosing.  Expand your knowledge of wheel throwing, hand building, and sculpture.  Clay 1 is required before taking this camp.

Petite Picassos  

Young artists will learn to express themselves through drawing, painting, printmaking and sculpture!  Students will be encouraged to create what they see and put their own style and feelings on paper.

Fairies of Fairness Dance Camp

Sing, Dance, Act, Dress Up, and Perform ballet as dancers learn about being fair and learning good manners.  Students should wear a Black Leotard, Pink tights, Pink Ballet Shoes and have their hair pulled back.

Art Sampler

These fun, art-making activities will inspire your budding artist to create their own masterpieces with exposure to a wide variety of arts media such as: drawing; fiber-art; sculpture; and collage.

Relief Printmaking  

 Students will learn how to carve an original design into a soft surface block that can be printed multiple times.  Students will work individually and as a group. Print your original design onto a T-shirt to create a one-of-a-kind shirt.

Band Camp

Expose your child to the joys of playing music with other young musicians in this week long Band Camp. This camp is open to any singer, guitarist, bassist, keyboardist, drummer, percussionist, or horn player (trumpet, sax, and trombone).  In addition to learning to play music with one another, these musicians will learn what it means to be in a band. A variety of topics will be covered to get students comfortable with making music together. At the end of the week a performance will be held during First Friday in downtown York. Participants should have at least two years of private lessons on their instrument.

Art Exploration Camp

Discover the joy of creative expression, working on 2-D and 3-D projects using traditional and innovative materials. This mixed media based class will allow students to explore and learn about many art materials and techniques and is design to give young artist s an appreciation and understanding of art in a fun and creative way.

Asperger’s Art Camp  

Students living with Asperger’s Syndrome will explore communication, sight, and touch by using elements of art to invoke discipline and focus as well as personal expression.  Campers will have fun while participating in a creative experience.

GIRL SCOUT CLASSES:
Minimum for all Girl Scout classes is 8 girls. Maximum for all Girl Scout classes is 15 girls. All classes will be filled on a paid deposit first come basis.  When registering for a Girl Scout class a 10% deposit is required.  No refunds will be given unless the class is canceled by YorkArts. DAISY’S ART ADVENTURE

Daisy troops will delight in their explorations with an assortment of media and tap into their creativity as they learn the basics of art. Girls will learn a variety of art techniques and will be taught to think about art as a way of self expression. (choose one date)

Photography101
Learn the workings of cameras, both digital and film, exposure combinations and ISO relationships. After learning the basics, it's all about shooting techniques and how to create images. Students will work in studio and out around Downtown York. This is a great camp for teens interested in art and photography, especially if you are thinking of either as a college major.

Mixed Media Madness
Using junk art, recycled art, and Dr. Suess’s “The Lorax” for inspiration, students complete a mixed media project on 8x8 hard boards, while developing an appreciation for the environment, the earth and recycling and learning a new art form most teens have not experienced.

Teen Ceramics: Throwing and Handbuilding
This class is designed for beginners to learn the basics of handbuilding, wheel throwing, and glazing functional and sculptural pieces.  With a focus on experimentation and expression of individuality through pottery, students experience the magic of throwing their own pots as well as learning hand building techniques and sculpture.

Advanced Ceramics
Ideal for students who have taken a pottery class in the past, the class will build upon skills achieved by introducing techniques for working on the pottery’s wheel.  This class will present step-by-step instruction on how to center, open and pull up clay to create bowls, cups and plates. Surface decoration, glazing and hand-building projects also will be explored. On the first day of class, students will discuss and decide on the project theme(s) for the session.
